It’s a New Year – Start Your Story
How do you start the New Year? Do you have that ‘it’s time for new beginnings’ approach? I admit, after the pressure of schedule overload and holiday crush, I’m ready for a restart, (…and maybe a nap!) I welcome the “new” of the New Year.
The picture is the “Lange Family Woods” where our county road cuts right through the center. This spot on the map is a local landmark. It’s significance for me is that it has always seemed like the ‘gateway’ to the Smyrna community and the Lange Family Farm – where I have lived my entire life.
As familiar as this location is to me, the picture captures a certain mystery, posing the question, “what is on the other side?” To me it feels like an analogy of the New Year. Much is familiar, much is known, yet there is a certain anticipation to what will be found on ‘the other side’?
This question is for each of us as we journey into this new year. What will we encounter? Are we traveling light ready to embrace the future? Or overloaded carrying burdens from the past into the future? There is comfort knowing we don’t travel alone. In faith we have guidance from the Holy Spirit. Through prayer we can directly access the One who brings each new day into existence. When the day’s burden seems heavy – which is a reality we all face at times or when our heart feels timid – it happens to all of us – reach out. Don’t assume we have to go it alone. Let’s embrace this new beginning of another new year together. Oh, the possibilities!
